Leon Sanford is an associate in the firm’s Admiralty & Maritime and Professional Liability sections. Born in Baton Rouge and raised in Lafayette, Leon is a south Louisiana native with a deep love for his home state, its culture, and its unique legal system.

Leon earned his Juris Doctor and Diploma in Comparative Law from the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center, graduating cum laude. While in law school, Leon gained hands-on legal experience as a law clerk at Entergy, where he got his first taste of tort litigation and motion practice. During his time at Entergy, he also assisted with pro bono post-conviction release efforts. Additionally, Leon served as an extern for Magistrate Judge Richard L. Bourgeois, Jr. in the Middle District of Louisiana. During his 2L summer, Leon clerked with Frilot, LLC, assisting our experienced team of professionals with legal research, case analysis, and trial preparation.

While in school, Leon was a dedicated member of the LSU Board of Advocates, where he served as the Vice President of Judicial Relations. In that role, Leon was charged with acquiring practitioners from around the state to serve as judges in LSU Law’s Ira S. Flory Mock Trial and Robert Lee Tullis Moot Court Competitions. His second year in law school, Leon was a semifinalist in the Robert Lee Tullis Moot Court Competition. Leon also served as a Graduate Editor on the Journal of Civil Law Studies during his final year in law school.

Before law school, Leon earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with a concentration in Law, Ethics, and Social Justice from Louisiana State University, where he was a member of the LSU rowing team. Leon also served as a volunteer for the SPLC, where he drafted Fraihat release applications for immigrants detained by ICE during the COVID-19 pandemic, assisting those with preexisting support networks in the United States to be released to the care of their families pending their immigration proceedings.
